To Make Christlike Disciples in the Nations
First and most importantly we are part of the ONE Church body with Jesus as the head of the Church (Colossians 1:18). We are part of a global Christian Denomination called The Church of the Nazarene (Matthew 2:23) and our mission as a denomination is ‘to make Christ-like Disciples in the Nations’
(for more info on our denomination visit www.nazarene.org).
Rooting, Growing, Reaching
But what does a Disciple of Jesus look like?
To keep it simple we have a local Church mission. It is based on Scriptures such as Psalm 1, Jeremiah 17:8 and Colossians 2:7 which describe a Healthy growing tree that is firmly rooted and bearing fruit.
But they delight in the law of the Lord,
meditating on it day and night.
They are like trees planted along the riverbank,
bearing fruit each season.
Their leaves never wither,
and they prosper in all they do
Psalm 1:2-3

Rooting in God
2 Timothy 3:16-17
Colossians 2:7
This is our foundation and starting point, God. Before we do anything else we must ground ourselves, root ourselves into the bedrock that is God through various means including but not limited to: teaching, prayer, and study. Why? Our desire is to grow deeper in faith and in order for that to happen we MUST root ourselves. Jesus gives us a great example of spending time with the Father, to know His heart. As we ourselves learn more of God's character in our rooting we ask ourselves as a church, are we reflecting God's character in all that we do?
Growing in Christ
Matthew 28:19-20
Ephesians 3:17
Colossians 1:28
Spiritual growth comes naturally when you are rooted in God. We recognise that growth, although natural, needs to also be intentional. Our desire is to make Jesus known in this community of South Edmonton, so that others may know the transforming Love of Christ. Serving, sharing, discipling are some of the visible outcomes of this purpose. Why? Because Jesus' love for us is so great that we want to share it with others. We want everyone to personally experience the grace and mercy that comes from Jesus so they too can journey in life with the Saviour.
Reaching Out in the Holy Spirit
Acts 13:52
Philippians 4:13
Matthew 25:35-40
The Bible is full of passages of how we are called to love our neighbour, feed the hungry, clothe the naked and even to love our enemies. This can seem a daunting task as we look at the world around us. We can't do this on our own. We recognise that there is a deep need for the Holy Spirit to be working in and through us in order to reach out into our community and our world. In His strength we seek to offer a variety of ministries throughout the week to meet both the physical and spiritual needs of the community around us. Why? Jesus sets the example of loving others. The more we find ourselves rooting in God and growing in Christ, there becomes a natural urgency to love the community around us. Our desire is to be a holistic church which not only focuses on spiritual needs, but addresses both physical and practical needs of those around us.
