124. The core duties of a pastor are to:
124.1.
Pray. (with people, for people, for pastoral guidance and wisdom, for vision, for various needs locally and globally)
124.2.
Preach the Word. (pray, prepare, deliver.. Not just Sundays- Bible studies for all ages, special meetings and one-to-one’s- in person and online)
124.3.
Equip the saints for the work of the ministry. (recruiting, mentoring, training, teaching the Church in vision and mission)
124.4.
Administer the sacraments of the Lord’s Supper and Baptism (comes through intentional discipleship)
124.5.
Care for the people by pastoral visitation, particularly the sick and needy. (prayer wall and the pastoral visitation letter are 2 ways we make ourselves available for visitation- to also be available for those seeking a visit/conversation. Visitation can be done in person, phone call, email/text, online, and also be available for those in the local community- Disciple those who are willing)

Comfort those who mourn. (be aware of the needs- organize flowers/meals, visitations, prepare and lead funerals)

Correct, rebuke, and encourage, with great patience and careful instruction. (discipleship- continue to learn, pray, visit with people)
124.8.
Seek the conversion of sinners, the entire sanctification of the converted, and the building of God’s people in holiness. (live out discipleship and spiritual formation and encourage the Church to do likewise)

Give due care to matters relating to solemnizing marriages (marriage course, ceremony prep, and deliver. Offer Marriage counseling)
124.10.
Nurture the call people feel toward Christian ministry and mentor such persons, guiding them toward appropriate preparation for ministry. (intentional discipleship)

Fulfill the expectations of God and the Church for a program of lifelong learning. (Read various books, watch, and listen to practical theologians, take part in seminars, workshops, conferences etc.)

Nurture his or her own call through the years of ministry, maintain a life of personal devotion that enriches his or her own soul, and, if married, guard the integrity and vitality of that marriage relationship. (life of growing and being willing for people to see that growth, spend time in the word and prayer- make time for discipleship in the family. Share life with others)
